What is New Student Orientation?
At Orientation, you will learn about how to be a student at KSU. This includes available campus resources, meeting current student leaders, and meet with an academic advisor to map out your academic journey.

When is New Student Orientation?
New Student Orientations are typically held the semester before you are enrolling. This would mean:
- If you are starting Spring 2022, these sessions are typically offered during November through January.
- If you are starting Summer 2022, these sessions are typically offered during April.
- If you are starting Fall 2022, these sessions are typically offered during May through July.

Do I register for my classes at New Student Orientation?
You will also register for your first semester of classes at Kennesaw State University during your New Student Orientation.

Is New Student Orientation mandatory?
New Student Orientation is required of all new first year and transfer students.

When should I register for a session?
To maximize your date options, we recommend registering for a session as soon as possible!

How much is New Student Orientation?
For both virtual and in-person orientation sessions, the student fee is $75.00 NOTE: Student orientation fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable.

What does the fee cover?
The fee covers a meal at one of our dining halls, Talon Card, giveaways, important materials, staffing, and space for us to host the Orientation session both virtually and in-person.

How do I know my session is confirmed?
All student orientation sessions are not confirmed until a payment is made and accepted. Check out the sign-up page on this site for more information about paying for your session.

What is your refund policy?
The Orientation fee for students, parents, and guests is non-refundable and non-transferable

I can’t register for a session. What do I do?
If you are having trouble seeing session dates or registering for a session, please contact us at ksuorientation@kennesaw.edu. Include the issue you’re experiencing, your first and last name, and your KSU ID number when contacting us for a faster resolution time.

What should I do before my New Student Orientation session?
After you register for your New Student Orientation experience, you will be emailed a preOrientation checklist that outlines things that you should do prior to beginning your orientation experience.

Can I meet my academic advisor before orientation?
Yes, we highly recommend that you meet with your advisor before your orientation experience to feel comfortable with what courses to take.
IN-PERSON ORIENTATION

Where do we park for New Student Orientation?
You will receive an email outlining where to park for your session.

What should I bring to my New Student Orientation session?
We highly recommend you bring a government issued ID (such as a driver’s license or passport), comfortable walking shoes, rain gear.

Where do I go for check-in when I arrive on campus?We will have staff and signs directing you to check-in for your session.

Is there a lot of walking during New Student Orientation?Yes.

Should I arrive to campus early for my New Student Orientation session?We highly recommend you arrive at least 5 minutes before your check-in time so you are able to attend all required sessions.

I am late for my session. What do I do?In the case that you are late, we will have late check-in available for those who arrive late. Contact our office at ksuorientation@kennesaw.edu for assistance during the day.

How long is the in-person Orientation session?The day will begin at 8:00 AM and end around 3:00 PM. This depends on what you need to complete before leaving campus.

I require special accommodations for my in-person Orientation session. What should I do?Individuals who seek additional assistance should reach out to the Disability Resource Center prior to their Orientation, as well as fill out the appropriate sections of their Orientation sign-up portal. Our office will be in contact with you before your Orientation session.
VIRTUAL ORIENTATION

What is a “virtual” New Student Orientation?
Students can choose to attend a virtual session to meet the orientation attendance requirement. Virtual sessions are facilitated live on Zoom. These sessions offer similar information for new students which includes meeting with your academic advisor, campus services such as Housing, Dining, and Parking, and meeting with your Orientation Leader.

What should I expect from my New Student Orientation session?
All New Student Orientation sessions will consist of a live Zoom meeting with New Student Programs staff, student leaders, faculty members, and other staff members in the KSU community. During these sessions, you will learn more about the resources available to you, get to know other students, and meet with faculty and staff to discuss academic advising and course registration.

How long is the virtual New Student Orientation session?
The live portion of the Virtual New Student Orientation experience is roughly 5 hours. This is to allow you to get as much information as possible to prepare you to join the KSU community. Following the live portion, you will register for classes and review post-orientation modules on your own.

How do I access my virtual New Student Orientation session?You will receive an email with the link to your orientation session at least 24 hours before the date of your Orientation session.

PARENT AND FAMILY ORIENTATION

Are parents or guests required to attend New Student Orientation?
It is not a requirement or mandatory for parents or guests to attend the orientation.

Are parents and guests with their students during their Parent and Family Orientation?
The Parent and Guest Orientation will have its own schedule and sessions scheduled, so they will not be with their student during the day.

What is the cost to attend a Parent and Family Orientation?$20.00 NOTE:
Parent and Family Orientation fees are non-refundable. -
Is there a lot of walking during Parent and Family Orientation?Yes

How many guests can attend orientation?Due to space limitations, students are only able to bring one guest with them to New Student Orientation.
